Overview of CPSC PEYO

Recognizing a child in a vulnerable situation:

A child in a vulnerable situation faces life’s obstacles without adequate support to counteract their difficulties. Toxic stress occurs when a negative experience is repetitive, constant, and intense enough to cause stress that becomes harmful over a prolonged period. For the child, this manifests as a risk of developing cognitive and developmental disorders.
The PEYO Social Pediatrics Center believes that a child has the abilities to overcome this vulnerability with the right tools and effective support. The PEYO Social Pediatrics Center will assist these children by identifying problems and providing solutions or rather tools to help them face obstacles successfully and fully develop their potential.

Procedures followed at the CPSC PEYO:

1. Referencing

The CPSC receives the request whether it’s the family, the school and teachers, health workers, speakers of the community and also the members. According to the children's needs, we decide if the child satisfies criterias to take into account their file.

2. The meeting

Following the request, there’s a meeting that reunites kids and their families and as well doctors, social workers and all people that might be important to the cause. This meeting will consist of speaking about the needs for the global health of the child. Furthermore, with the people present, we search to find the source of the stress in the child.

3. Action plan

This step consists of putting in place an action plan to respond to the global health needs of the child that have been discussed during the first meeting to continue the progress towards optimal development.
